Can’t believe this day is already here. As of right now, I am living in Rome for the next four months. At this point, it hasn’t even hit me yet that I am in another country. I didn’t sleep on the plane and the exhaustion is now starting to hit me.
Saying goodbye to my family was difficult. I said goodbye to my brother the night before I left, said goodbye to my Dad that morning, and my mom drove me to the airport. I love my family and I love spending time with them, so seeing them so upset that I wasn’t going to be with them for the next four months was difficult for me. It still hasn’t even hit me that I am in another country.
My first flight had a layover in Germany, then from there we headed to Rome. Adding up the time in the air and the time waiting for planes to arrive…let’s just say it took a long time to get here. Sleeping on the plane did not work for me on the way here. Due to the seven hour time change, my body did not think it was time to sleep yet. I watched three movies to make the first eight hour plane ride pass by, two of which were Harry Potter movies. The third and fourth one to be exact. While the Harry Potter movies are entertaining, I am now regretting not sleeping when I had the time.
As of right now, I have already eaten dinner and my family and friends at home are only just approaching lunch time. My body wants to sleep and tonight I am going to try and sleep as much as I can. The John Felice Rome Center has lots planned for us this Orientation Week and I couldn’t be more excited.
As for the dorm and wifi situation…let’s just say I’ll have to get used to it eventually.
I am extremely excited to see where this journey takes me. I am now beginning to figure out what countries I want to travel to while I am here. My first weekend trip will be next weekend with the entire John Felice Rome Center. Rumor has it we will all be spending the weekend in Naples, however I don’t have that confirmed.
I am obviously missing home right now, but I brought plenty of pictures of my family and friends to remind me of the important people in my life.
Due to the jet lag and the vast amount of exhaustion I am experiencing, I will not be going out and exploring Rome tonight. However, tomorrow I plan to experience what this wonderful neighborhood of Balduina has to offer me.
